I love the time and in between
The calm inside me
In the space where I can breathe
I believe there is a
Distance I have wandered
To touch upon the years of
Reaching out and reaching in
Holding out holding in

I believe
This is heaven to no one else but me
And I’ll defend it as long as I can be
Left here to linger in silence
If I choose to
Would you try to understand

I know this love is passing time
Passing through like liquid
I am drunk in my desire...
But I love the way you smile at me
I love the way your hands reach out and hold me near...
I believe...

I believe
This is heaven to no one else but me
And I’ll defend it as long as
I can be left here to linger in silence
If I choose to
Would you try to understand

Oh the quiet child awaits the day when she can break free
The mold that clings like desperation
Mother can’t you see I’ve got
To live my life the way I feel is right for me
Might not be right for you but it’s right for me...
I believe...

I believe
This is heaven to no one else but me
And I’ll defend it as long as
I can be left here to linger in silence
If I choose to
Would you try to understand it

I would like to linger here in silence
If I choose to
Would you understand it
Would you try to understand...

Lacey Marie Collins was born July 22nd, 1990 in New Orleans to Phillip and Lynn Collins of Shreveport, LA. Her father is a lawyer with old Southern money he inherited from his share in the Collins Corporation who worked with Johnnie Cochran before his most infamous case. Her mother was Miss Louisiana when she met him, having worked at a Sonic Drive-In until her pageant endeavors began paying off. She came from no money, her family having been on welfare for most of her childhood. Thus Phillip's family and friends thinking her a golddigger, which ultimately turned out to be all too true.

Lacey's childhood was relatively happy and also extremely privileged. Her mother put her in the Little Miss Magnolia pageant, much to her paternal grandmother's dismay. Lacey won, but decided after just one pageant that she didn't like it. In fact, she hated it, and refused to do any more of them. Lynn attempted to push her into more of them, but when Lacey threw a fit, Phillip intervened and forbade it, mostly at the request of his mother, Regina. The one good thing that did come out of her experience at Little Miss Magnolia was her love of dancing which was discovered during the choreographing of the show's group routines.

Her parents enrolled her in dance classes: ballet, tap, and jazz. She excelled in ballet and tolerated the others. For awhile, ballet was her obsession and her parents delighted in showing recital videos of their prima ballerina to their friends. At 10, she decided she didn't like ballet anymore once she discovered modern dance while participating in show choir. It was then that she discovered her second great love. Singing. Lacey cut back on dance classes, dropping down to just modern while taking up vocal lessons in addition to the piano lessons she'd been taking since she was 8. The summer she turned 15, she started a rock/pop all girl group called Eden's Curse with some girls from school. By the time freshman year rolled around, they had already disbanded, having played one county fair and a show at a local mall. Throughout the next year and a half, Lacey took up the guitar and played solo at weddings and parties and with her school choir. She was an okay student, member of the dance team, and president of the Drama Club. She wasn't actually interested in drama, but she liked having a say in what musicals were performed each Spring.

But things weren't going so well in her home life. When she was 12, it was found out that her father had been leading a secret double life. He had another wife and family who lived in New York that no one knew about. When everything hit the fan, he left her mother and the other woman for one of his paralegals who was barely ten years older than Lacey. Her mother fought him tooth and nail in the divorce, and then took him for every cent she could get out of him according to the pre-nup when she realized she couldn't stop it from happening. Lynn couldn't get her hands on the family estate, so Lacey was forced to move with her to another subdivision across town. Her father took full advantage of his weekend custody, having someone on his staff come and pick her up if he was unable to, even if he was out of town. Her parents found lots of creative ways to stick it to each other. Most of them involved Lacey.

Suddenly one day in the midst of her parents' divorce turmoil, Lacey began experiencing some strange phenomena she couldn't really place or explain. She began having dreams, nightmares really, and noticed her entire physical energy as a whole was inexplicably different. The therapist her parents had her seeing in hopes he would point fingers at one of them as being the more damaging said it was just the stress of the divorce. He prescribed her a mild antidepressant and later an equally mild anti anxiety medication, and Lacey pretended they helped just for the sake of not having to deal with it anymore.

June of 2007 marked the end of her junior year. Her older cousin Kacie, who had moved to California to pursue an acting or modelling career offered for her to come spend a month in Santa Monica over the summer to maybe get some exposure for her singing. At first, Lynn threw a fit and refused. But when Phillip made it clear that he would let Lacey take a month out of his six weeks custody in the summer to go, Lynn relented and finally agreed. She was already struggling to keep up with the spending he'd done to spoil their daughter, having first bought her a car last summer for her sixteenth birthday, and then given her a credit card on his account as an early birthday present this year. Plus, Kacie was her own sister's child so she felt she could trust her more than she could have if it was someone on Phillip's side.

Currently, Lacey is excitedly waiting for her trip to California, beginning on July 2nd and lasting until August. She has no idea if it will bring her fame or disappointment, or if it will just be a fun way to spend her summer that doesn't include being stuck in Louisiana.

She also has no idea that what she's really destined for is slaying vampires.

Lacey Collins is an original character from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom. I'm not really her, nor am I really Hayden Panettiere, and I don't own anything involving BtVS. The concept for the character, however, really is mine so don't even think of stealing or copying.
